Marine Wing Support Squadron 271 provides a variety of assets to 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing like motor transportation, engineering and communication capabilities.

Lance Cpl. Jurado Emiliano, a field wireman with the squadron, provides both the Marines in his parent command’s squadron, and all Marines within his combatant command when deployed, with communication assets.

“As a field wireman, I provide and maintain telepathy networks in the field,” said Emiliano. “Telepathy networks are used for all telephones – any calls made in the local area, during field operations and even calls going from base-to-base and even overseas.”

While providing communications to a wide variety of people, Emiliano enjoys being able to show people the distance a call can travel and how important it is to have communication assets.

“My favorite aspect is showing people the communication capabilities that we have,” said Emiliano. “We have the capabilities of calling home, contacting people’s family and allowing them to keep in touch and make morale calls.”

While overseas, morale calls are important to the squadron because they are one of the many ways the squadron pushes through rough deployments.

While training or deployed, field wiremen provide the detachment with phones, make numbers and provide all means of communication, according to Emiliano.

As Emiliano continues to move forward in his Marine Corps career, he aspires to learn as much as he can pertaining to his military occupational specialty so he can inform his fellow Marines and ensure they have the means to be the best that they can be.
