NMCRS kicks off annual fundraiser

The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is scheduled to kick off its annual active duty fund drive March 16 at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C.

The fund drive was created as a way to provide financial support and education to service members and their families.

The NMCRS will accept donations March 16- April 17 via squadron representatives or online donations.

“We are here to fund the community,” said Vicki Wilson, the NMCRS director at the air station. “Our mission is to provide military families a reliable organization that will help them during their time of financial need.”

The active duty fund raiser provides a means for service members to utilize their commands’ designated representatives to both donate and gather more information about the NMCRS services, said Wilson.

“These service men and women should not be worried about their financial status,” said Wilson. “They need to focus on work, families and maintaining mission readiness. We try our best to alleviate the debt they have and help them get back on their feet, so they can focus more on their careers.”

According to Wilson, the NMCRS offers many quick loan programs designed to get military families the financial aid they require during their temporary time of need.

“Over the years, the number of families that have requested financial assistance has decreased,” said Wilson. “This decrease shows that our program is working. We are making significant progress in educating service members and their families, and leaving an impact on our community.”
