Marines with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron and Marine Transport Squadron 1, stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, attended a beach bash day of sand-filled fun, games, food and refreshments at Fort Macon, July 17.

The beach bash is an annual event hosted for members of the squadrons and their families to meet the command and other family members while developing stronger unit camaraderie, according to Cpl. Brandon E. Carter, an administrative clerk with H&HS.

“It brings out the brotherhood in the Marines,” said Carter. “I love events like this because it gives us the opportunity to spend time together in a different environment.”

Several service members and families cooled off in the waters of the Atlantic, while others participated in events like volleyball and a bean-bag-toss.

“Families are an integral part of what we do here,” said Sgt. Maj. Eric Bauer with H&HS. “It is great to have a venue like the beach so the whole family can enjoy it.”

According to Bauer, family is a huge part of being a successful Marine. “We cannot function without family, so we want to show an appreciation and host events like this where the family can come out.”

According to Carter, the beach bash is uplifting, raises morale and makes people look forward to the next great event. Family readiness is an important aspect of the squadron’s success, he said.
