MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. -- Maj. Gen. Gary L. Thomas relinquished command of 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing to Brig. Gen. Matthew G. Glavy during a change of command ceremony here, June 9.
Thomas served as 2nd MAW commanding general since his appointment in August 2015.
“To the Marines and Sailors of 2nd MAW,” said Thomas. “I would like to offer my sincere thanks and admiration to you and your families for your service and sacrifice in the defense of our nation. My greatest reward is to be associated with Marines just like you.”
Thomas will continue his career at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA.
“Glavy is a proven commander and combat leader,” said Thomas. “Under his leadership, I am confident 2nd MAW will provide outstanding support to the II Marine Expeditionary Force and continue to strive for excellence to ensure 2nd MAW remains on the cutting edge.”
This is Glavy’s second time taking charge of a command after Thomas.
“I have the great task of leading behind a commander that has done his job so well and has set me up for success,” said Glavy.
According to Glavy, the deputy commandant of aviation told him that he is here to reinforce success.
“I am falling into a very good situation,” said Glavy. “The 2nd MAW Marines are great and I thank them for what they will do in the future.”
