GUATEMALA CITY— Four UH-1N Huey helicopters embarked aboard a U. S. Air Force Reserve C-5 Galaxy are being used in support of Operation Martillo. The aircraft from Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 467 are assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 29, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing based in Cherry Point, N.C. The crews and aircraft of HMLA-467 are attached to U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South for the duration of the operation and will be used for detection and monitoring. Detachment Martillo, under operational control of U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South, is comprised of a number of units from II Marine Expeditionary Force. Operation Martillo is an operation led by Joint-Interagency Task Force-South, of the U.S. Southern Command, and is designed to help stem the flow of narcotics through Central America and its Pacific and Caribbean coasts by denying transnational criminal organizations littorals used for illicit trafficking.
